Since then it_has chrystalyzed and now they have quite positive information they say as to where the watch went, a8 also the money. During the trial this information was alvogether inconsist- ent with Johngon’s statements, and they made up their mind that the full development would follow, and therefore they relied on the General Term to reverse the judgment below. This not baving been done they redoubled their efforts, and not working for self-glorification nor relying on technical grounds they have obtained tntor- mation that makes them absolutely certain t the guiliy parties are others than those con victed. They do not pretend to say that Tob- Brown and Johnson committed the murder, Dut that if they knew anything abo.t it their knowledge was derived ‘froma participation in they claim that Brown's letter to the District Attorney 1s the best evidence agains’ im. An Important Decision. THE WHARF CASES SETTLED. ‘The important cases of the Potomac Stea' boat Company against the Upper Steamboat Company and the Inland and Seaboard Coasting Company, licensees of the United States, been decided by the Supreme Court of the Dis- trict. These cases, with several similar oues, have been pending for several years. Messrs. Selden & Robinson were attorneys for com- lainants, and Birney « Birney for defendants fhe complainants are owners of lots on the north side of Water street, between the Loag Bridge and the Arsenal grounds, and claim the ownership of wharfing privileges on the south ide of said street, as appurtenant to these lots. The decision fs against this claim and fn favor of defendants in each case. As whariing privi- leges and accretions are both on the samie foot- ing as riparian nea the decision appears to clear away all the obstacies to improving the river front, except the “* Kidwell meadows claim. _——— District Government Affairs. The contract for the reconstruction and strengthening of the M street bridge over Rock Creek, Was to-day awarded to the Pittsburgh Bridge company at $4,759. THE NEW SCHOOL BUILDING ON CAPITOL. Very few hucksters raise what they offer for sale. Many of them have stands, and send out their surplus stock for the street. Sometimes the very meats, fowls or fruit etenines al the market are sold on our streets. Again, those who purchase from hucksters generally get a poorer qnality, and often short Weight or measure. Not once’ out of ten times Will potatoes, sold by the peck, weigh within three pounds, lawful weight. Many personas Pivad for these men because the poorer c cannot go to market, and ere obliged to bay in the street. The poor need our sympathy quite as much as those of whom they buy. AS ‘MENT OF JUDGMENT IN A DAMAGE CASE. ‘There $s considerable comment about the City Hall in consequence of there having been placed on record Saturday afternoon the assignment of the judgment obtained a few montbs since in the case of Sylvester Mayhew use of J. Hoff- man Smith against Christian Ruppert. It will be remembered that this was an action for dam- — laid at $5,000, alle to have been sustain- ed by Mayhew from debris falling on him in front of Ruppert’s place of business, in which a new front was being placed. The case was tried in the Circuit Court and a verdict for $2,500 was obtained, but a new trial was awa! and the amount of damages was ralsed to $3, Itjwill be remembered that while this case was pending before Judge MacArthur an attempt Was made to bave the plaintiff arresied in tl court room, and Mr. A. E. L. Keese, Shi Ritehle of P. G. Co., and Oflicer Howell were sent to jail for contempt of court Iu con: quence of it. Messrs. Birney and Birney and Woodbury Wheeler were the counsel for pl.
