Casey Young, of Tennessee, and the presentation of a national flag, the Uniformed Battalion of Patri- | arch met the Baltimore Drill Association at the B. and O. depot and marched over the route printed in THE Stak, being reviewed by the of- cers of the Grand Lodge and Grand Encamp- ment of the District and severalof the nd officers of Maryland at the National Hotel, and at the Executive Mansion by President Hayes. The two battalions were uniformed in black suits, with purple baldrics apd gauntlets, swords, and chapeaux with purple feathers, each body carrying the flag of the order and the U.S. flag. The home battalion was headed by W. F. Weber's cornet band, of this city, and the visitors by C. W. Weber's cornet band, of Baltimore. They made a fine appearance, look- ing and marchi well. The officers of the Baltimore association were James Young, com- mander; G, W. Lee, -—— Pumphrey and J. W. Bolden, leutenants. = The parade was concluded about 6:45 o'clock, and after a short rest in the parlors of the Natlonal Hotel the order was given, and the company, numbering over 200, was escorted to the dinini- room. JEALOUSY, & FIGHT AND A FINE.—Yester- day. in the Criminal Court, Judge James, the colored man, Wm. Marshall, recently convicted | Of an assault on Mary Hill, was seatenced to Pay a fine of $25 and costs. “Mary Is a widow, a rather light colored mulatto, and o io courtgrith an infant nearly white In her arms, and charged that Marshall, an almost jet biack Man, Was its father. Mary had been living with Marshall, but he deserted her, which made her } Jealous, and she put a watch upon him for the Purpose of discovering her rival, and was not long in finding her out. Subsequently she saw Marshall entering the gate leading to the house of his new love, and accosted him. Angry words ensued, changed to blows, and M: ll felled the woman to the ground. Outsiders interfered and sto} the fight. Thomas Smothers, the stalwart colored man convicted in the Criminal Court,on Tuesday last, Of rape on the person of Miss Lena Leins, on the 2th of February last, having been re- fused a new trial by that court yesterday after- noon, was brought in court this morning for Sentence. On the court being convened Mr. R. R. Perry, Assistant Distric “Attorney, moved his sentence. Smothers was thereupon eailed up, and the Court recy it he had anything to say why sentence should not be pronounced he answered in adirm voice “No, sir.” The Cour.— “The sentence and (ile terol of the Court is that you suffer imprisonment at hard labor in the penitentiary house near Albany for the pe- riod of thirty years.” Smothers returned to his seat and in a moment was laughing with a fel- low prisoner in the dock. Bradley made a Willin August, 1866, and died a year after. This will left his large estate to his son, W. a. Brad- ley, jr., and A. Thos. Bradley, a cousin, in trust for the other heirs. In 1s71 the latter, ‘then the surviving trustee,conveyed the property known as Mark Young’s corn mill, in Georgetown, to Young. The children of W. A. Bradley, jr.. contested the possession of Young on’ the ground that A. T. Bradley had no power as ‘trustee at that time to make the sale. ‘The Dis- trict Supreme Court decided in favor of com- planants, and this decision is now aitirmed. In the case of J. G. Phillips, administrator of R. G. Shedd, against Albert Ordway, Chief Jus- tice Waite delivered the opinton of the court af- fliming the decision of theDistrict court. Shedd, im 1S71, advanced $58,500 to Ordway to aid him. In carrying out a comtract to supply stone for the new State department. The contract was a losing one and the money was not repatd in full. Shedd sued at equity in 1875 for an ac- count and recelved $24,931.52 of assets, winning his case in the lower court, but being reversed above. This court decided that the fund must go toa company formed to relleve Ordway of the contract. A dismissal by consent was entered in the case of Thomas C. Basshor & Co. against Hallet, Kilbourn and others, suit to enforee a me- chanic’s lien, In which a decree for sale under the lien had been given in the District court Both parties will pay their own costs. ‘The Hirth Murder Case. The counsel in the case of Bedford, Queenan, and Pinn, convicted of the murder of George P. Hirth in January last, and sentenced to be executed on Friday of this week, expect to com- plete the bills of exceptions this afternoon. A Boy SHooTING Cask,—This morning, tn the Police Court, Wm. Galvin, a colored boy of 11 years, was charged with assault in shooting Robert Grimes, a boy of about the same age, last week. They had been playing together and were apparently friends. ‘The court said the case seemed to be one resulting from gross carelessness, such as sometimes grown persons are guilty of, and, in consideration of the age of this boy, he would require him to give recogn!- 7ance Lo keep the peace. This deposition was material to the collection of, and made !n support of a cer- tain claim against the government by Sally Vaughn, the widow of severly K.
