In an- swer—t. time is in the spring, as soon. as the ground becomes dry enough to be friable, and the plants are preparing to start. If the work ts well done, every plant will live. Young plants are to be chosen which rooted trom run- ners the previous autumn. 2 The next time 4s just after bearing, when the plants have been thrown into a paruy dormant state by the ex- haustion of fruiting.” It has the disadvantaze of having no newly-rooted runners for setting. This period may be extended for a month or lwo, care being taken to lift plenty of roots, | refreshing and reviving asa little of Murray « | and temples, and ‘0 cut off the larger leaves, to immerse the roots in mud, to settle the soil with water, and to mulch with fine manure. With that additional are, the plants will mostly live and make a fair crowth before winter. 3. The third period is arly in autumn, as soon as the newly-rooted ‘unners afford good plants. But success is much uncertain, as such plants do nov make much rowth before winter, and they are in danger of reing thrown out by frost. They do better on ight than on heavy so On clayey ground, a light mound should be made aboué them, and he surface trodden hard and smooth to throw off the water which falls, and to hold the roots firmly. Covering with evergreen branches for winter isuseful. 4. The fourth period i ever a large mass cr bulk of earth may be ta with theroots. We have set plants In th in May that have borne good fruit in June; and. in an open winter, set out a bed in Jani which preduced a good crop the succeeding summer. The larger the mass of earth, the less phe uae are cheeked by the operation. This mode is practicable only for plants removed short distances, or from on part of the garden toanother.—[Country (entiena ————————— ___ Lousiana STATE LOTTERY. UNPRECEDENTED ATTRACTION!
