Now that the controversy respecting the le- gality of the act of the District heer in abolishing the offiee of government fire com- | missioner has reached a point where the opin- | ions of the Attorney General and the Attor- | ney of the District have been given and are in direct conflict, the correspondence on the | subject 1s of interest.
