T have made an inspection of the dairy farms from which the large supply of milk comes to the Alderney Dairy depot, in this city, owned and managed by Mr. ¥.’K. Ward, and in all cases found the cows in a healthy, comfortable condition; the stables and surroundings clean and well’ ventilated, and the spring houses, where the milk is placed as soon as taken from the cow, and reduced to the proper tempera- ture by cooling in the spring water, thereby ex- tracting the animal heat before being ‘Geltve ered to foes “consumer, in a perfect condition as re- gards location, water and cleanliness. The owners, who are the Hegpgned on these farms, are intelligent and highly eee citi- zens of Virginia, and take a great. pride in the management of their cattle and farms, the cat- tie being the prime consideration. The product from the fine stock which with iL care they have selected being their chief support, they know it is to their interests to supply the very best possible article to Mr. Ward, thereby keep- ing up the Beceem of their dairy with hin and his establishment with the consumer. I ex- amined the food in the feed-bins, and the qual- ity and quanuty given each animal, which js a inixture of fresh corn meal and bran, with long food of clover hay and en-corn fodder, with roots occasionally 18 the regular food given the year round, in accordance with a concract between the owners of the cows and Mr. Ward. ‘This, together with the clover- fields, through which now streams of clear, cool spring water must insure to our citizens a ‘pure and rich sun of milk, as it is delivered to the consuiners directly from these farms, which, with close connection and good railroad facili.
