This subject is of great im- portance and deserves the most serious con | sideration. It is suggested in said letter that a plan ought to be proper to give employ- | Ment to the honest and willing laborer, by | which he can earn his daily bread and sup. port his family. This is sound doctrine, and can be pan In practice if the people of the city of Washington will take a hearty interest in the premises. What is impossible for one or a few, becomes an easy matter _if a great num- ber lay hands to the work. For some years past a number of gentlemen have endeavored to form an association in the interest of rurai labor, which can give a home and from 15 to | 20 acres of fertile land to each, to ponieess of families, who are now willing to work. but have no means to procure land for their sup- port and who have no chance of getting eu ployment otherwise, and therefore they ean- not avail themselves of the only safe methods, name). and industry, to better their condit and leave an wees eity, where starvation wages, hunger and misery seem to be their inevitable lot.
