Althouzh of reserved and unostentatious habits, he was a man of fine aequirements, sound judgment, and inflexible integri handsome competence which he had ac yalife of industry and moderation was i by any equivocal gains. Mr. Shriver was educated at St. Mary’s Col lege, was admitted to the Frederick bar, and commenced the practice of the law, but his heaith, which was always delicate, compelled him to abandon his profession, and seek recu- peration in the scenes and occupations of a rural life. His health was so much improved by the change, that about the year 1S45 he re- moved to this city, and became the Washing- ton correspondent of the “Baltimore Patriot,” and his contributions went far towards esta! lisbing that journal in the high and influeutial sition it attained.
