The accounts of the pner in which he received the fatal in- juries do not all agree, but it is probable that the truth will be developed at the inquest, which is in progress this afternoon. he statements of those who claim to know some- thing of the facts of the case are in brief as | follows: That Wm. Fletcher and Jeremiah Desmond, both well-known contractors, on Thursday evening last had been drinking, and | going into the saloon about five o'clock they pecame engaged in aquarrel. EUi- son, late engineer of the House of Represen- tatives, for killing David Small, late an elec- trician a. the Capitol, by striking him over the head with a club on the 7th of March, 1877, from the effect of which he died on the Zist of the same month, was given to the jury. Judge Wylie directed the marshal not to keep the jurors inthe hot jury-room at the City Hall, but to make choice at some hotel of the city of a cool, comfortable room, where they could remain and consult freely without being over- heard.
