It was predicted that this course would be taken by them at some time before the chamber assembled, but after this event, when combativeness had been aroused by the cutting invective of the republicans, and De Broglie had declared that the government would not submit to the proposed inquiry of the Lft tto election abuses, it was thought that the ministry would persist in its policy of resistance to the bitter end. But the bitter end has come in an uplooked for shape,and MacMahon must supply himself with new advisers. Tne immediate cause of this change of pianon the part of the cabinet is probably the stand taken by M. Bocher and the constitutional group.
