The republican platform reaffirms confi- dence in Mr. Hayes and cordially approves | his policies: favors both gold and silver as legal tender for al! debts not specifically pro- vided for by law, with coinage and valuation ‘80 placed that there shall be disadvantage in trade with foreign nations; demands the Temonetization of silver; opposes subsidies and the renewal of patents by act of Con- gress, and on the labor question recommends | the establishment of a national bureau of industry; the exerting of its powers by Con- gress over all national highways of trade to secure fair returns for capital and fair wages for labor, and providing for statutory arbi- trations between employers and employes. There is a small fraction of radical Tepub- Heans, headed by General John Beatty, which bas denounced, in its resolutions adopted at Columbus, August 9, the sur- render of the southern states into the hands of insurrectionary minorities, &c., &c. The vote of Obio last November for Presi- dent was: Hayes, 530,698; Tilden, 323,142; Cooper, 3,0; Smith, prohibitionist, 1,635. The republicans have three majority in the senate and nineteen tn the house. Iowa votes for part of her state officers and a legislature to choose @ successor to Senator W. B. Allison, republican. There are three Uckets fn the fleld, on which John H. Gear is the republican candidate for governor; Joho P. Irish the democratic candidate; aad Daniel P. Stubbs the greenback candidate. The democratic platform declares that Til- den and Hendricks were elected, opposes subsidies, demands the immediate repzal of the resumption act and remosetization of silver, the retention of the greenback cur- rency and no farther contraction; urges equal taxation, one currency for all, pay- ment of the debt as rapidiy as is practicable; opposes iegisiative interference in the rela- tions of labor and capital, and congratulates the country on the carrying outof the demo- cratic policy at the south. It also favors a Heense law. The republican platform says that the par- ty Is sacredly pledged to the permanent pac- ification of the south, and the complete pro- tection of all citizens in their rights, and de- mands of Congress and the President cour- age and fidelity which shall not fatl till the re-ults (ofthe war) are placed beyond dis- pute or recall. The public credit should be sacredly maintained and continuous and steady steps be made towanis specie resump- tlon—the present volume of currency being retained and silver remonetized and made a legal tender forthe payment of debts to the public_and private subsidies are opposed and a wisely adjusted tariff for revenue is favored.
