Notwithstanding the “dull times” and the Stagnation in real estate the growth of Wasb- ington in the way of new buildings ts steady, and the buildings erected of late are notably Of the better class, calculated to greatly adorn and improve the city. The numberof build- ings erected in Washington City prior to De- cember 1, 1575, was 23,121. Acconting to the report of General Meigs, engineer of the Washington and Georgetown Aqueduct of IRB, there were at that time 1 buildings in Washincton. In tive twenty-two years, be- tween 18Wand 1875,therefore there were erect- ed 15,410new batidings. The number ofbuild- ings erected in Washington and Georgetown prior to Deeember 1, 1575, was 25,283. During the year ending November 3, 1876, 1,161 new butidines have been added in these two cities, showing the number of buildings erected in both cities to date to be 26,444.
