THE CHARGES AGAINST Kev. UaiEL GRAVES.—At the ve partie ee of the Mary- land Lutheran synod at Washington, D. C., October 9, the counsel in the case of Rey. Uriel Graves, formerly pasto® of the Third English Lutheran churen of Baltimore, and now of St. Joho’s Lutheran church, were an- thorized to appoint a committees to adjadi- cate the matter of charges against Mr, Graves of unclerical conduct, schism and contuma: y. This committee was to consist of five ordained ministers and four laymen. The counsel in the case were Rev. Drs. Bar- clay and Stork, of Baltimore, for the prose- cution, and ~ Dra. Diehl, of erick, and Owen, of Hagerstown, for the defence. Should the counsel for the defense decline to agree to the Le sitions offered in the letter, it is believed that the committee will go by default, and the trial on the charges already preferred Will be postponed to the next annual session of the synod. Should this be the case it is understood that the counsel for the prosecu- ton will bring up new charges, based upom™ what they claim is pew and additional evi- dence against Mr. Graves, and will apply to the president of the synod, Rev. Dr. Jonn G. Morris, of Baltimore, for @ committee to try the new charges preferred. Should this be the case it cepa the same counsel wili act as heretofore — [ Bait.
