SECOND DAY OF THE FALL MERTING. Yesterday was the second day of the fall meeting of the Washiogton Driving Park, at Benning’s. In consequence of the high Winds and threatening weather yesterday many people were discouraged, and the at- tendance was much smaller than on the pre- vious ony. There were two races—one for all District and Virginia horses for a urse Of $100—$50 to first, $25 to second, $15 third, and $10 to fourth horse, and the 2:30 class fora purse of $1,000—$500 to first, $250 to second, $150 to third, $100 to fourth. IN THE FIRST RACE the entries were O. J. Schoolcraft’s Ki ‘West, C.T. Yoder’s Hunter, J. L. crafts Ri . C. Hopper’s Ned Buckley, and J. H. Middleton's Jersey . Key ‘West was drawn. It was conceded tnat Huoter and Buckley would closely compete for the race, and atthe start the latter was fully two ay behind, but succeeded in passing both Rignold and Jersey Boy and came in second—Hunter winning the heat in 246%. The horses (except Diner, who was withdrawn,) got away in bad order, but be- fore they reached the baif-mile pole they Were ll bunched, and so close was the race between Carroltov, Mattie Lyle, Sooner, and Scotland that only the most practiced eye could determine who would bave the beat, all four crossing together. The heat was ‘made in 2:35y,and the judges placed Carroiton first, Mattie Lyle second, Nellie third, Sooner fourtb, Scotland fifth, Venus sixth, end Nut Wood seventh. On the second beat all the horses got away together = Nellie and Scotland, who ri alittle. Sooner went to the front, and led #il around. Scotland, on the iast quarter, by an excellent burst of speed, pessed everything except Sooner. Nut Wood had the advantage at the start, but fell back, and on the second quarter Sooner started for the first place, and gained it At the baif mile post, keeping it to the end; Scotiand taking and maintaining the second piace. Mattie Lyle met with an accident when within @ length of the wire, being at the time tp the third place on the third heat.
