In #tx states— Vermont, Maine, Colorado, Pacanperetn Arkansas, and Georgia—elections been beld this tall. Tne fret three been carried by the republicans by Sverage majorities, and the three southera | states have gone “solidly” democratic. The interest now culminates in the election of Tuesday next in Indiana, Oblo, and West ‘Virginia. In Indiana, state officers, members of the 45th Congress, two representatives to fill va- cancies in the 41th Congress, members of the Jegisiature, and town and county officers ‘Will be chosen. There are three State tickets in the field—the repudiican, democratic, and independent (greenback) The independent candidate for governor, Anson Wolcott, bas Just withdrawn bis candidacy, but the rest of the ticket for state officers and is yet in nomination. Tne republican plat- form was adopted in February, and declares that any attempt to hasten the period for Tedeem!ing the national currency in gold and silver would be inexpedient. The democrats met in April, and opposed any contraction of the currency, favored the gradual substi- tation of government notes for national bank notes, and declared in favor of ‘measures nd policies that will produce uniformity in value in the coin and paper money of the Country without destroying or embarrass- ing the business interests of the people.” Both platforms demand the repeal of the resumption and also oppose the pay- meut of any part of the rebel debt or of claims for emancipated slaves. The inde- pendent or greenback parity adopted resola- tons spproving the 3.55 bond scheme, as well as other inflation measures. The republican candidate for Goveruor is Benjamin Harrison, the democratic candi- date for the same office is James D. Wil- liams, better Known as “‘Biue Jeans.” Be- low give the republican and democratic nominees for Congress. The vacancy in the 2d district was caused by the resignation of James D. Williams, thedemocratic nominee for Governor; the 3d district vacancy was occasioned by the death of Speaker Michael . Kerr: Bepablican m “cratic. 45tn Con.—1. C. A. De Braler. «B" 8.
