St. Lovis, June 24—The preparation for the Democratic Convention fs notable to-day onevery hand. Up to last night only strag- glers had reached the leading hotels; but since yesterday morning a dozea complete delegations have arrived, and “headquar- ters” are placarded at the parlors of the Lindell, the Southern and the Pianters’. The New York, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, Di laware Vermont, Missourl and Massachusetts delegations are full. The latter came via Washington, over the Peun- sylvenia and Baltimore and Ohio roads. The friends of Gov. Tilden, headed by Man- ton Marble, late of The World, arrived here last evening, while their opponents of Tam- many Hall, uncer the lead of Sachem Kelly, were bere Thursday, and have been bard at work in every possible quarter, cencuncing Tilden and predicting his defeat in New York, if nominated, by & large majority. Tails takes the liberal repubi S$ out of th democratic camp and relegates them to th republican party, where Feuton, Merrit! and others of ube leaders went at the late republican convention. At the Hendricks headqnarters et the Sonthern hotel, the Indiava delegation are talking up ir favorite, declaring that he ts the only democrat who can carry Indians, and insisting that if oneof the October states is not carried the democrais will fall to win in November. One clement of weakness in Henoricks’ candidacy is the opposition of the German vote tv Inalana, which is united against him on account of his signing a local temperance law. He will not take the sec- ond place on the ticket. Senator Davis and the West Virginia dei- egation intend to urge Thurman. Sergeant- at-arms Thompson 1s also bere in Thurman's interest, and says he is the only man who can defeat the republicans in Ohio. I would not he surprised to see & compromise between the anti-Thurrosn faction in Cincinnati, and the rest of the Ohio democrats in favor of Thurman.
