A meeting of the male employees of the Engravirg and Printing bureau of the Trea- fury department, wh® were far! ed last February with the voderstanding that they would beret at work reain when an priation shovld be snage for continuing ope- rations in the bureau, was held last night at the American House, corner of Pernsviva- | pig avenue and ith street. A'so, the appointment of @ committee to draft a bill, naming in it the amount necessary t> pay each of the suspendei employes for two months of their time since tuch suc pension, and appropriating the same. DIDN'T LiKE THE RESOLUTIONS. Mr. W. T. Johnson did not favor that por- tion of the resolutions that seem: 1 t> intt- mate that an improper use he | been made by Mr. Bristow. and those under him of the $211,000 appropriation. HOW TO GET THE AID OF & DEMOCRATIC INGRESS. CONGR! Mr. Shaw replied that the only effective way for them to get the ald of a democratic Copgress was through investigation, and apy proposition by which political capital could be made would be mostapt to secure congressional action. The put of this appropriation wes to carry 7. the priating. apa it was al.o the distinct understanding of both houses that the old bends would be employed to the end of the present fiscal year. WHAT IS TO HAPPFN AFTER THE CINCIN- NATI CONVENTION. . Mr. Allen thought they would piace them- selv’3 in an antagonistic position to the Secretary and Mr. Jewell, which might operate against them hereafter in getuing back their places. It was replicd to this, that there was the best of reasons for be- that neither Mr. Bristow nor Mr. Jewe ould hold their places after the Cin- cinnaticonvention. It wasstated by several that by the adoption of these resolutions, any one g part inthe meeting would stand very littie chance of getting employ- | ment under these officials. ‘The chair said it was very well known that the Secretary of the Treasury was a much better democrat than he was @ republican, a ie the appropriation of sufferers must look to the republican officials whose duty it was to disbarse this money. Those members who Erees will bo very apt tobeed tae coraplaiats very api complaints of the laboring classes. No half way course | should be adopted. Political capital is of | more consequence to both parties now than anything else, and if this appropriation had rot been used as intended by the law mak. ers, let it be investigated. NO FAITH IN POLITICIANS. Mr. Alien stated that be had seen many members in relation to the two months’ pay apd all beartily favored it. Some one repiied that he had had fifteen years’ experience among politicians and he would not give three cents for such @ prom- ise. What is to be done shouid be done at once, the committee to draw up a proper bill should ake great to bave it right in all respects as to the amount, &¢,, soas to save amendments and conference com- mittees, Which would jeopard ita chances of passage. FRIENDS OF DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMEN. Mr. Shaw said there was no intimation in the resolution that Mr. Bristow haa made improper vse of this money, but it was a weil Known ‘act that all the new employes put at work since the furlough were iriends of © moecratic members. He knew of one oy to hex who bed forty appointosents ety Wing and Print- bin in the Baresa @ one interrupting said he knew of one who bei elght employes charged to him. After forther discussion the RESOLUTIONS WERE ADOPTED, and the chrir appointed a committee of five to prepare a resoluticn of inquiry, to be in- treduced, calling upon the tary of the Treasury to explain in relation to the $211,010.
