Franklin Kinney concluded the series of receptions for which she had issued cards, and her large parlors were crowded with a distinguished compaby during the afternoon. General regret was expressed that this was the last of her receptions, for the present at least. Mrs. Ernest Kinney has been unable to appear in society this winter,on account of an injury she received in November, which bas made her temporarily lame. She has, however, so far recovered now as to beable yesterday to come into the parior, and while Testing on @ sola receiv’ her friends. The President's reception drew an over- whelming throng to the Whie House last evening. The avenue in front of the man- sion was filled with carriages and pedes- trians soon after the hour arrived for opening the doors. Within, the crush was very great from 9 p. m, until 10 o'clock, when, the time allotted for the receptioa having expired, the President and Mrs. Grant quietly set the example for retiring. Every one scemed to evjoy the occasion, and it would be difficult to imagine a more animated scene than the Blue Room presented, where, as usual, many of those best known in society were congre- gated. The toilets were even more clegant than are usually seen at these receptions. Mrs. Grant’s apricot silk was garnished with white lace, and was handsome and be- coming. The skirt was long and graceful; the corsage was high. Mrs. Sharpe assisted Paige | the early part of the evening, and Mrs. Fred. Grant arrived later with her hus- band. Marsual Sharpe made the presenta- lions. Mrs. Sha.pe wore steel-grey silk gar- nished with black lace. Mrs. Fred.Grant’s opal-tinted silk, relieved with lily-of-the- valley fringe, was very sty lish becom- ing. Mrs. 4 wore an elezant black Brussels lace skirt and basque over white silk. Mrs. Pierrepont’s Unsod cameo-tinted kill was one of the most elegant toilets’seen. Mrs. Chandler yore one of Worth’s most artistic combination toilets, bronze mavelasse was intermingled with pale blue, richiy em- broidered; the whole was garnished with rare lace. Madame Sant Aron is oneof the most agreeable ladies of the diplomatic corps. She is a tall ful brunette, and wore last evening @ charming tollet. Garnet velvet of rich texture formed the decolefee corsage and court train, the petticoat was twilight blue moire, garnished with white laca. The Jewels worn were en suife, pendant, ear-rings and brooch were com; of rubies, dia- monds, pearls and emeralds, set to appvar as if they had been careless! y scattered over a network of gold. Miss Willing’s toilet of white gaze dle chambery was much admire. Entwited in her dark hair she wore strands of pearls, and the same gems formed her necklace and other ornaments. Mrs. Fish, Miss Fish, Mrs. Robesoa, Madame Mantilla, Madame Dardon, Madame Preston, Miss Scott, Madame Baltazzi, Mrs. Gore Joues, Mrs.Yoshida, Mrs. Ward, the Misses Stewart und Miss Brewer were all tastefally attired.
