WASHINGTON, Praise in the Churches, Never before in the history of the capital was Thanksgiving Day more generally ob- served than it was yesterday. The day was bright and pleasant, and the streets were throu ged until sunset with promenaders, or persons wending their way tochurch or to the Capitol, where reposed in state the re- mains of the dead Vice President. All of the government departments were closed in honor of the occasion, as were also the Dis- trict offices and many business establish- ments in the city.
