There are two vacancies to be filled, one caused by the recent death of Mr. Ferry, of Connecticut, and the eternal vacancy from Lonisiana claimed by Pinchback. A democratic Senator will be chosen in place of Ferry, of Connecticut, which will give the democrats 30 instead of 20 votes. Should ademocrat be elected from Louisiana, as is thought probable, and he be admitted to @ seat, which is believed improbabie, the democrats will muster thirty-one votes. From the total republican vote take those whose yotes cannot always be counted upon—Aleorn, Robertson, Hamilton, and Edmunds—and their list is diminished to 3s. Leaving out the question of the Louisiana Benatorship the democrats will be able to @ast a total vote of39. Add to this the four doubtiul republicans above named and they will have 31. To this add three independents, Booth, Christiancy, and Cameron, of Wis- consin, and the opposition to the undoubted republican element would number 37, or a majority of one. Although most of the Sen- ators put down as doubtful or independent republicans more frequently vote with the republicans than the democrats it will be Been at a glance that when they do the lat- terthey will leave the republicans in the minority.
