At night “Col* Pinchawver de- lievered an address of two hours’ length, his subject being: The California Hoodlum Bank; The Sutro Tunnel; The Refrigerating Stove; The Double Acting Air Pump; The Forest Light, The Poor Man's Mill, and the Pineh- awver Canal. Takenfaltogether, no such an eddress was ever delivered before on this continent. The peculiarity of the “Colonel's” pronunciation, Which renders it impossible for one to wnderstand move than one-fifth of the words he uses, together with the fact that the audience, in their enthusiasm, felt con- strained to cheer him at the end of each sen- tence, made the affair one of the most exhil- irating nature. The “Colonel” was followed with a short address by Mr. Rush Bohrer, hich was quite as edifying as that of the “Colonel.” After the literary feast was over, a@ large number of those present enjoyed themselves in, gencing. to the music of the Holy Hill bi nti a late hour. As the liquor commenced to have its effects Con- rad conceived the idea of shuffling off the mortal coil by means of a loaded pistol. The weapon being procured, Conrad preper'd for the ordeal by placing it in an unheard-of position—namely, direct!y beneath his nose, with the muzzle slightly penetrating one of his nostrils. The fatal moment having arriv- ed, the desperate man pulled the trigger. His nose, although not blown otf by the ex- plosion, was considerably damaged. Conrad was locked up by the unsympathetic police a 59th-street station house.—¥. ¥.
