It was Stated at this meeting that because of the igh railroad charges all the shippers to the West have lost money, some of them consid- erable amonnts. The freight on a car with 250 boxes of peaches to Chicago is #255, and information from that point was to the effec cles were selling there at from et box. The leaders in the organization expect to complete their ticket by the latter part of this month,so that by the first of September they will be ready to hold a pud- lic meeting and submit the names of their candidates. There will at the same meeting be read a declaration of the principles aad P@rposes of the party. According to the Sun, the new party will declare in favor of a large number of reforms, such as economy in public expenditures, amendment of the laws relative toelections and the registration of voters, opposition to the contract system for convict labor at the penitentiary, &c., «ec. It appears that while out driving near his country place In Con- necticut, his horse became frightened and Yan away, throwing the eminent tragedian from bis phwton, and injuring him quite Seriously. At first there were fears of a fatal result, but a closer examination showed his injuries to consist of fractures of the left elbow bones and one rib, and at last ac counts be was getting along quite comfort. ably, with good prospects for an early and complete recovery. This supplementary in- telligence would have been cratifyiug at any time to the people of Washington, but jast bow the announcement has a double inter- est, since Mr. Booth iggander an engagement to give some of his masterly impersonations in this elty during the coming dramatic sea- fon. ———~0- -—______ A swindling newspaper correspondent, giv- ing his name as L.
