American, ‘ WORKINGMEN'S RESOLUTION Delegates from & number of trades unions met in New York Tuesda: ht, and passed resolations that the r duet of workingmen’s wages on public improvements was unjust and arbi- trary, and unworthy of the present age. Also, that it was the duty of the government to furnish employment to the unemployed in times of depression. Also, that the re- duetion of the hours of labor’ by the ecight- hour law was based upon ceonomie truths which could not be gainsaid, and in which the best interests of the state were involved. The resolutions also comprised something about plundering officials, etc., etc. .BURGLARS IN THE HIGHLANDS OF York.—Burglars have been paying the respects of late to the country houses of Wealthy New York citizens up the North river. That of Mr.James Pell, near High- Jand Falls, hast $500 worth of ladies’ dresses, laces, ete., stolen on Sunday last, and those of Messrs. Charles and William Tracy were visited. In the latter a servant girl sur- prised them, but they locked mer ina room and carried’ off a quantity of silverware. From the hovse of the former they were frightened. “They then robbed two stores. About twenty residences on the Hudson have been robbed within the last fortnight. THE STRANGE MANNER IN WHICH A CovPLE WERE DROWNED. Mr. Jas. Guyan and Mrs. Sloan, aged about 16 years, have been drowned in Brush creek, 4 miles from Holden, Mo. They had been to Warrens- burg, and were returning at 1o'clock on Sun- day morning, when they mistook the cross. ing, and striking a perpendicular ledge of rocks, capsized their buggy. It is supposed they were drowned immediately. The lady was found one-fourth of a mile east of the crossing, Monday morning, and Mr. Guyan about 100 yards below her. He served four years in the navy during the war, and there discovered to his surprise that he was vastly superior, both in sped and endurance, to his comfules, many of whom prided themselves on their aquatic accomplishments.
