In JUSTICE TO THE TREASURY CouNT- ERS.—The publications in TuE STAR both yesterday and the day before of correspon- dence between banks and the national re- demption agency of the Treasury respecting shortage in money packages, has led to the conclusion ou the part of some readers that the packages are reported short and made so through the abstractions of money by the Treasury counters. This seems to be the general opinion of bank officers who them. selves sometimes make careless counts for the fact that the money for redemption re- ceived at the Treasury in packages is in as many instances over as under in amount. Quite recently a bank sent a package which bad five thousand dollars more in it than it sent an invoice for, and it is of record that in a dozen cases banks have been notified of errors in their favor ranging in amounts from one hundred to five thousand dollars. The misfortune for the Treasury counters Is that when a bank is reported short it always makes a loud outery concerning the short- age, but when the mistake ison the other — the banks don’t have much to say about t. DR.PETER'S JUBILEE PLANETS.—A second observation has enabled Dr. Peters of the Litchfield observatory to determine that both the objects discovered by him on the morning of the 8th instant were hitherto un- Known planéts.
