Verdi said it was simply a matter of opinion. “The question is noi one of small expense, but why should the people be put to | the expense of material to experiment with for the beneflt, of the Odorless Exeavating company. It wasa bad precedent and might lead to still greater expense. On reading the minutes, Dr. C. P. Culver said that he was represented as hay- ing nominated at the last meeting Senators THURMAN AND BAYARD for democratic candidates for President and Vice President. He had only namet those | gentlemen as worthy of the consideration of the American people. At his suggestion the minutes were amended. Mr. Thos. Jenkins was elected a member. The resolutions offered at the last meeting recommending Senators Thurman and Bay- ard to the people for nomination for Presi- dent and Vice Presicent were read, and after some discussion (the committee not having acted on them) the subject was laid over. DR. ALLEN ON LABOR INTERESTS. Dr. Alien offered a resolation declaring “That the oppression of the interests of la- bor by the republican party has produced the present depressed condition of the country, and that in the future,as in the past, the democratic party will always recognize the dignity of labor. and advance by all means | In its power its best interes! which was refer to the cammittee on resolutions.” D. C. DELEGATES TO OHTO. Dr. Culver offered a resolution, and asked that the rules be suspended for its considera- tion and adoption, *Thatin view of the meet- ing of the state de ratic convention of Ohio in Columbus on the general invitation to all the states a: y tories to send to it delegates, the Ja>ksoti Democratic Association send two or more delegates to said convention. Mr. Davis objected to the resolution, claim- ing that the press would deride them for se! ding delegates to a state convention. Dr. Culver said that in times past the as- sociation had sent delegates to state conven. tions, and it was perfectly proper to send delegates to this convention. PARFGORIC AND GAR. Mr. Davis said the delegates shoujd pay their own expenses there, and he charged that Dr. Culver had introduce! the Thor- man-Bayard resolutions for notoriety. He Suggested tbat an appropriation be made for paregoric to keep Dr. Culver still. Dr. Allen was utterly surprised at the course of Mr. Davis. No matter what mea- sure was proposed he was always ready with an objection and any amount of gab. His objections had no point. Captain Goddard asked what were those delegates to do. Dr, Allen replied that the point was that they bad been invited; and, in view of the corruption of this administration, it would be well to have delegates there from the Dis- triet to show what our people have suffered under republican rule. As far as the ques- tion of expense was concerned he would be glad to go there as the representatives of this organization at his own expense. On motion of Dr. Allen, the resolution was adopted. (n motion of Dr. Culver, the chair was em- powered to appoint the delegates.
