Brooks was charged with kidnapping Philip Scott and taking him ontside of the city, thus de- priving him of his liberty. Patsey Scott, his Mother, testified thet her child was taken from her in October, 1873; he was then nine- teen years of age, and did not return home until last Wednesday. Philip Scott swore that while he was at the Baltimore depot shoveling coal Brooks caught himand tiet him. He took him to Baltimore and sold him to Capt. Priee, commanding a schooner. A RUNAWAY CAR AND SMASH-UP.— Yesterday afternoon the horses attached to a@ car on the Washington and Georgetown railroad became frightened and ran up Bridge street, and came into collision with the wagon of Capt. Goddard, which was stunding in front of his store, with such force as to completely strip the harness from the horse which was hitched to the same, and drove the shaft into his throat to the depth of several inches. The horse is unfit for service, and it is feared that he is perma- nently disabled.
