The girls were represemied by Misses Sadie White, Annie Moore, Nellie McLean, Belle Carroll, Mollie Bona, Magzie Mitchell, Mary Du- guid, Annie Cavis, Mary O'Meara, Emma Seott, Florence Bartlett, and Annie Far- mage. The boys were championed by Perry Turpin, Wm. Cohen, Harry Rohrer, Arthur May, John Frazee, Edward Patterson, Wm. Baxter, Geo. Faherty, Walter Klopfer, Thos. McKnew, Rob’t Lesh and Chas. Riggles. The pedagogue gave out about 600 words before the victorious wreath finally rested on the brow of Miss Nellie McLean, who, with her close competitors, Misses Mitchell and White, endured a steady fire of words during more than two hours. The prize, _ pen, was therefore presented by Mr. Woodward to Miss McLean. The next prize was to be given, under the rules, to the boy who re- eelved the last shot on his side, and Master Perry Turpin having bravely stood till his ammpnition cave out and all his companions had deserted him, gracefully hauled down his flag. When he was called to receive his prize he gallantly presented it to Miss Maggie Mitehell, second best on the girls’ side, but who had stood a much longer and more aifti- enlt “spell” than himself. Young Turpin’s generosity and good taste was heartily ap- planded by all present.
