T OF THE POLICE ON A DISREPU- TABLE HOUSE. Considerable gossip has been indulged in of late by citizens residing in the neighbor- hand N streets northwest in rela- tion to the character of a house on the corner of the streets named. It seems that Mr. Dan- iel Haggerty, an old and well known hack- man, ‘died se al months ago, leaving sev ral children. Two younger sons, Daniel and James, have since heen oceupying the house, keeping bachelors hall together. For the Past three months it seems there has been a crowd of rather fast boys and girls frequent- ing the house and their carousals, especially at nicht, have been noticed by the neighbors who have made complaint to the police. It is represented that several young girls resid- ing in this section of the city have been there, and that some of them have been sent to the house of the Good Shepherd in Balti- more by their parents for reformation. Last night these scenes were repeated, and Officer Peaster. doing duty hat beat, entered nel took into custody Daniel and James Hi Try ed respectively 20 and 14 yea: J.B. Cs 3. 17; John Norris, 20, and Title Donaldson, aged 17 years, and locked them up in the sixth precinct station. Norris and Tilly were up stairs together and the other ties were down stairs playing cards. This Incrning they were all at the Police Court. Daniel Haggerty was arraigned on the ecping a bawdy house. Tilley is the daughter of re- spectable parents in’ Georgetown. He had freqnently seen bad characters of both sexes enter there. Officer Simonds testified to the same effect. Norris was called and testified that he was up stairs with Tilley. Til lestified that she went there last night b ypointment. It was the first time she as ever there. She was in the room with ris about hglf an hour when the police arrived. Counsel for Haggerty stated that they had no witnesses, and appealed to the merey of the court.
