Bureau or ComMERCE.—The Senate Com- mittee on Appropriations has added to the legislative, judicial and executive appropri- ation bill an amendment propising to create & bureau of commerce and statistics, heading it with a commissioner, salaried $3,500 perannum. No executive powers are to be granted to the new bureau, but it is to be charged with additional duties, consistin; mainly in the collection of information an¢ statistics concerning railroads and internal commerce. TRE COMMITTEE ON SOUTHERN AFFAIRS decline, at the present time, to make public the report of the sub-committee who went to New Orleans, and which, as announced in Tuer Stak, was submitted yesterday. The abstract heretofore given in THE Star is a very fair indication, however, of the contents of the report. It ts Signed by three members of the sub-committee, Messrs. Foster, Phelps and Potter.
