Mr. Davidge made a statement for the defendaute, alluding to the offer to submit the case on the part of the defendants. He said that four years ago, in passing through this room he bad been attracted by the creditable manner in which Mr. Harrington had conducted % case, and complimented him. From this an intimacy had eprnng np. He had watcned Mr. Barrington’s course, noting his triamphs, and had rejoiced in the success of his young friend. Then his (Harrington's) political friends offered him s position, which be socepted. Ho (the speaker) however had advised him agains. tt.
