What may be a very good quality in calico is a very bad one in stamps. The dcsideratum is to invent some that won't wash. They will build and open s saperior theater, to be called the Center Square Theater on Froad street, near the public buildings. The establishment is to be as nearly perfect as may be. A good stock company will be engaged, and unexceptional plays presented. Russell Smith ts to paint the ecenery—a guarantee for excellence,as he has no equal in the country. Now, we take the liberty to make a suggestion to these public spirited and tasteful young gentlemen. Let them offer three prizes for the best plays by American authors—say $2,()), 21,000, and $500, and say $20 night during the run of the play in Philadelphia. A proper committee to sit in judgment would be Col. Forney, Morton McMichael, William B. Mann, Louis A. Godey, Joseph Sailer, C. J. Peterson and Gen. Bing- ham. These are gentlemen of culture—all Sbaksperean—and they sre thoroughly up in all that relates to the drama.
