Eichelberger, bailing from Baltimore, on the charge of larceny of books from patties towhom be had sold them. Itis charged that hie mode of procedure was about as follows:—After delivering the numbers of works and recovering pay therefor he would go to the house, take orders for binding, and carry the books off, gene-ally coming back with the bou: Jame, and receiving pay. H. Nel- son, on the charge of beipg in the party who robbed Whipple's store, corner of Mth and F streets, on the 13th of March last. (Officer West, it will be recollected, assisted in the arrest of Jobnson, Jones, and Williams, and others, some time since, for being concerned in the arsong and robberies in the northern part of the city. DEATH FROM AN OVzRDOSEOY LavpaNC™.— Veeterday, Deputy Coroner Harugan viewed the remains of M. D. Fuller, whose sudden ceath at Howardtown was mentioned in Tax Stak of yesterday, and decided that an inquest was unnecesssry. It was ascertained that he bad died from an overdose of laudanum. Determined to satisfy himself as > the sarety of the bonds for which Dr. Vansant had become trustee, he visited the Treasury department, and there received the astonishing information that the name of the party in which the bonds had been re; was changed aod the trans- fer acknowledged by Ur. Vansant. One of the bonds had been transferred to the name of Stoneberger, and three more had been similarly altered. ‘Heving that Dr. Vansant was igno- rant of the transaction, he immediately com- mupicated with that SS who re- sponded here in person, disclaimed any kno x- lecge of the transaction, supposing the bo ds rate in the keeping Of Conway’s mother. Officer Conway and Dr. Vansant consulted Major Richards, who gave the case to Datec tives McDevitt and Miller, who say that they found that Charles C. Bo; clerk in that de- partment, had aesisted in ‘air, and had PRERSONATED DR. VANSANT in the transfer of the bonds. ‘The officers took him into custody, and afterwards found, they say, thata watchman in the treasury name! Joveph T. Wayne also passed himself off as Dr. Vansant, and committed the forge-y in aitixiug bis rame to the transfer. He, tov, was arrested and locked up at police headquarters, while U. C. Boyd vas locked upin the central gaard- house. The officers also discovered, they say, that Thomas H. S. Boyd aud his wife were im- pos in the affair by presenting the bonds for transfer. Warrants were taken out for them, but as they resided outside the jurisdic- by ot the —— courte the officers ere the officers in Montgomery county, aD asked their asaistance. A TRIP TO MARYLAND. A cipatch was sent to Sheriff Waters, request- ing that he meet the detectives of this city at Boyd’s station on Thursday morning last. They alto sent a dispatch to Spencer OC. Jones, state’s attorney at Rockville, asking bis assist - ance in making the arrest of Boyd and his wire. ‘The officers lett on the morning named with Officer Conway, and on arriving at Kockyille they were met by Mr. Jones and Deputy Sheriff Miller, who had received instructions from the torney to give all the assistance possi- bk Messrs. McDevitt, Miller and Conway proceeded on to Boyd’s station, when they lett the train and took the road for Clarksburg. On the road they met Sheriff Waters, when Mr. Miller stated the object of their visit there, which the sberiff seemed to under- stand as well as the detectivesid. He, how- ever, listened to the story, and positively re- fused to permit the arrest'to be made, stating that they bad no authority to ‘do By and that be. (the Sheritf,) had a case agains: Boyd which ue was then engaged upon, but that Beyd had no money as he well knew. ‘Tae party separated, Sherif! Waters proceeding on towards Rockville and the Detectives and Con- vey towards Clarksburg. On arriving there they were supposed to meet Sheritt’ Waters, Who, it appears, anticipating Boyd's arrest, had wade a short cut across fields and woods to errive abead of the officers. This was mora apparent when Detective Miller entered the house of Boyd, as Mrs. Boyd showed that sue was aware of their coming. The oilicers being thos foiled in arresting Boyd left for this city without him. Mrs. Boyd came to this city to- Cay and surrerdered herself. ‘Two warrants were this morning retarned to Police Court, one charging Joseph Wayne with forgery in two cases, and the other of false against C. TRANSPORTATION OF PRISONERS. Mojor Kichards denies that he has any in- tel whatever in the transporting of also Police Court, or to the almshouse; but says that was acting for Thomas Kobinson, contractor for carrying these prisoners. The horses used for this purpose in the black-maria are the property of Kobinson and not of Major Rioharde, "He also states that when the prejent ayetem was introduced he did convey the p: oners to the court for about eighteen mouths, but gave itup when the contragt wss made by the police comamisxtoners with Robinson, some three years ago, since whichtime he has had nothing more todo with it. Tee BOARD oF HEALTH met iast night, and Mr. Langston, from the committee on ordi- natices, stated that his committee had been con- sidering the subject of renovating the night- soil by the odoriess process, and had come to the conclusion to advertise for proposals, the time of the present contract having nearly expired; they think advertisements in three of the daily papers one time will be sufficient; the report was adopted. The frame shanty, No. 722 Lith street northwest, baying a leaky root, causing the walls to be damp, c., aud the frame shar‘ (0.1352 9th street northwest, being in bad sanii condition generally, were con- demned as nuisances, 2nd ordered to be abated. Dr. Verdi cailed up’ the Kinsolving nuisance case, and Mr, Marbury read a communication published in one of tbe daily papers which re- fi-cted on him as being interested 1n tue max- imum fertilizer. He denied the truthfainess of the statements in said communication. Dr. Verdi read the report of the sanitary commit- tee, also the report of the chemist to the doard, giving the constituent properties of tie maximum fertilizer, which is regarded as detrimental to health. A report was alse read which had been submitted some time since by Dr, Shafer, of the Surgeon General’s office corroborating the opinions of other official ex- perts upon the subject. Mr. Marbury stated that there was but fifteen tons of the material now stored there, which is not likely to do any barm at this season. The resolutions attached to the feport of the sanitary committee, condemn. ing said fertilizer as a Duisance and directing its abatement, was read and adopted; Mr. Mar- bury voting in the negative. A Freneh priest, the Abbe Louls,of the department of the Meurthe-et-Moselle, travel- ling ina steamer between Coblenz and Mayence uttered an impradent word in conversation with one Puchler, a journalist of Berlin.
