Mary came to the house about a month ago, and no sooner had she fot settled than these terribie manifestations began. The landlady, Mrs. as, sat down in the kitcwen one day and began to clean beans, snd suddenly an egg came flying outof the pan- try, de.cribing a curve in such a way that no brman hand conid have directed it. An inspec- tion of the pantry gave no clue t» the mystery. Whilst she was moving across the room the pan of beans went off on a skating trip. Then &@ currant ple took fight. Subsequentiy a sec- ond pie that Mrs. Giddings had made and sat on the table exploded, scattering the top crust and fruit all over the room: dishes came flying out of the pantry, sausages and eggs and pieces of breal were thrown about the floor,and the stove farnitare got a shaking up. A host of spectators were sam moned to the scene, and one of them was hit by a stove cover litter, which came and hit him on the leg. Investigation showed that these extra- ordinary manifestations were made only when the servant girl was about, and so the next time several dishes began dancing about the landlady hurried the girl out of the house, vow- ng she chou'd not enter it again. We give tue state- ment as related to us by Dr. Harris, who was called to the relief of a would-be suicide, and who administered the succcssful antidote. Tne person had taken between forty and fifty grains of opium, and was fast dying. He could no longer swallow, his extremities were cold and had turned black, while his respirations only Bumbered between six and seven to the minute. This last of itself seemed to indicate that all hope was gone, as anything less than eight res- pirations & minute had heretofore been known assure precursor of death.
