At the close of it he came down to THE MOURNERS’ BENCH, and in a most forcible and earnest manner en- treated the unconverted to come forward and seek salvation. About half a dozen did so, and the devotional exercises. consisting of alternate singing and praying, mingled with shouts and responses, were continued till some time after 10 o'clock, during which time some at the altar professed to have been converted. The finish- ing touch was given to the exercises by the col- ored brethren, who waxed warm in their reli- gious fervor for another hour. During the ser- vices by this band the whites gather around them, almost encompassing them. SUNDAY TRAINS. Major Koontz and Mr. Spencer, of the Balti- more and Ohio railroad, were on the ground to- day making arrangements for the running of trains next Sunday, and have decided to send three trains up here in the morning, as follows ist train at 10 minutes past eight, the regal express; train at 5:25; third train at 8:10. ‘These trains will run, it will be seen, at intervals of fifteen minutes, and sufficient cars wil! be attached to each train to give accomedation to all who desire to attend. Keturning the first train will leave the camp ground at 5:30 p. m. ‘This train will make Baltimore i all way stations. The next train will leave at 6:20, and will consist of cars enough to take all who cama in the morping. There will be cars enough on all the trains, and if persons will understand that the above arrangements will be carried out there need be no scrambliag for seats, aud all accidents will be aveided. If Major Koontz Will direct the train that leaves Washington at 7 p. m. daily to balta moment atthe camp ground station, it would be areal convenience to those who cannot leave as early as 4:15. By that means we could aiso get copies of Taz Siar on the day of publication, for which tuere is great demand. [From the Louisville Courier-Journal, Aug. 9.] Mr. Richard Ten Broeck, the weil known Kentucky stock raiser, living about eight miles from the city on the Selbyville pike, was shot and severely wounded by General Walter Whit- taker, at Gilman’s Point, five miles from the city, yesterday afternoon. The people of Louts- ville Were greatly excited over an exaggerated report of the affair which reached thecity about dusk to the elfect that General Whittaker had shot Mr. Ten Broeck three times, laticting wounds which caused his death in a short time afterward. Such was, fortunately, not the case; and a reporter of the Courier-Journal, who went to the scene of the tragedy last night, ivarned the following particulars ot the affair, which were elicited at the examination of Gan: Whittaker last night : Mr. Whittaker lives near Linden station, about nine miles from this city, and practices his profession here, going home in the after- noon, sometimes on the accommodation and sometimes on the Lexington train. Yesterday he started home on the latter, which left at 2:59 p.m. Mr. Ten Broeck was in the city on busi- ness, and left on the same train. Messrs. Ton Broeck and Whittaker took seats near each other, and soon after the train started were en- gaged in conversation. During the conversa- tion Mr. Ten Broeck made @ remark concerning some family matters which seemed greatly to offend Mr. Whittaker. According to the state- ment of a witness, Mr. Ten Broeck said to Mr. Whittaker, ‘*You know I brought your sister- in-law home trom New York.” The allusion seemed to be of @ delicate nature, and General Whittaker, becoming instantly angry, replied, “You are @ damned liar!” Some angry words on both sides then ensued, aud a fight between the parties on the train seemed imminent; indeed, had it not been for the interference of friends, 4 bloody tragedy might have been enacted in the car. When the train reached the Fair Grounds, Mr.Ten Broeck went into an. other car, and nothing farther occurred until the train reached Gilman’s Point, where Mr. Ten Broeck stopped to meet an engagement. Gen, Whittaker aise left the train, and meting Mr. Ten Sroeck on the platform’ again, com- menced to quarrel with him. Mr. Uhaties A Lewis and Col. K. H. Crittenden, of Frankfort, es to the ecene that followed, aui testified in Whittaker’s examining trial before magistrates. Mr. Crittenden statec Whittaker approach ‘Ten Broeck in ahostiie manner. Ten Broeck, waving both hands before his face, told Whittaker repsated- ly to go away. that he didn’t want tohave any- thing more to do with him. If any other words assed between the parties, they were not heard y the witnestes. Whittaker coutinued to ad- vance, and when within a few feet of Mr. Ten Broeck, drew a pistol and fired twice at him, without effect. The pistol was presented a third time, when Mr. Ten Breeck, seeing the only chance to save his lite was to get in closer quar« ters with his antagonist, rushed toward him. Whittaker fired a third time, but again without Bilect. Len Broeck closed in upon his adver- sary, and @ struggle ensued, but the struggle was B sora Bag |. Whittaker, releasing his arm trom Ten poeyil ge placed the muz- zie of his pistol to the ok ntieman’s forehead and fired. Mr. Ten Broeck instantl: sible, and as many supposed dead, upon the platform. After he was down, Whittaker pro- sented his pistol and again attempted to fire at his prostrate body, and was prevented trom do- ing so by the crowd which gathered around. Several of the men who gathered on the plat- form, took up the apparently lifeless form of Mr. Ten Broeck and carried him to the tay- ern, about 100 yards distant from the piatform. For some time Mr. Ten Broeck remained insen- sible; the blood flowed Staggishly from a hole almost in the center of his forehead, and ever y one who saw him was impressed with the belief that he was killed outright. Dr. Chenoweth was quickly summoned to the piace, and on ex- smining the wound found it to beof a much Jess serious nature than was supposed. By pro- bing he ascertained that the ball had not en- tered the skull, but had glanced upward ander the scalp, running over the bone and coming out near the rear of the crown of the head. The physician pronounced it only a fiesh wound, and was of the opinion that it was not of a serious or dangerous nature. After the wound Was dressed Mr. Ten Broeck was conveyed to his bome in a carriage. Before being taken away he became again conscious, and conversed th bisfriends. He did not seem to fear any Serious results from his wound, and only com- lained of extreme weakness. Mr. Ten Broeck is over 60 years old, and quite feeble, and the shock of such an atiair was of itself sufficient to produce nervous prostration. He was resting quietly at his home at a late hour last night. Soon after the shooting, General Whittaker surrendered himself to Constable J.C. Oldham, and had au examining trial before Squires Ray- mond and Kudy. Messrs. Crittenden and Lewis were the only witnesses, and testified in sub- stance to the facts which we have stated above. ‘The wound being regarded as not of a serious or Gangerous nature, General Whittaker was released on @ bail of $2,500, and went home by the next train.
