Shot- well, alias Mrs. Roddy, was one of the first to which Assistant District Attorney Horace Rus- sell turned bis attention on his return to tue District Attorney's office. It was thought at the time of her triumphant acquittal atter an indictment for larceny had been found agatast her atthe instance of General P. D. Koddy, her lover, or husband, that the supplementary prosecution for perjury would be abandoned, or that she would at least be admitted to merely nowinal bail. The influence, however, of Gen. Reddy’s counsel, Little Johnny Davenport, was strong enongh to keep the young woman in the Tombs unti) yesterday. Then Mr. Kassell or- dered her discharge on her own recognizance. She at once went to her mother’s home in Hackettstown, N. J. She may retarnon Mon- day next to have a nolle prosequi formally en- tered at the beginning of the August term of the general sessions. When this is done, the remaining subjects of litigation between her and Gen. TRANSFUSION OF BLoop a REMEDY POR CoxsUMPTION.—A new remedy for cousump- ‘ion has been found—or at least the doctors think £0 at this moment—in the transfusion of the blood of animals. In the remaining fifteen cases the blood of sheep was used. There was one death; in three other cases there was no perceptible improvement through- out, and in some cases perfect cures. Dr. Hesse hopes to prove that he can cure pal- monary phthisis in this way. Dr. Gedellices has tried the transfusion of sheep’s blood in two cases. In one there was great improvement, and in the other a complete cure. ————— Waar Carar Caxpigs are MADR OF—An Investigation by the Brooklyn Board of Health.— From recent developments made to the Brook- lyn sanitary authorities it appears that the manufacturers of sweetmeats in that city have fallen into their old bad habits of using poison- ous compounds, several children having re- cently been taken ill suddenly after eating candy.
