Butler has had his speech in favor of the moiety system printed in pamphlet form, with an appendix containing a copy of an order of Congressman Beck on the government print- ing office for 5,000 copies of his epeech against the system referred t>. Annexcd to the order are the names of certain members of ,Congress, with the number of copies they desire. With one exception the members wanting copies are democrats. The exception is Congressman Pierce, of the third Massachrsetts d'sicict, who ordered four hundred copies. Prefixed to Mr. Beck's order is the following by Gen. Butler : “The following letter will show which of the republican members of Maewsachnuretts eiren- late democratic speeches against the adminis. vation.” It is plain to see that Gen. Butler bopes by this to injure Mr. Pierce's proapects for re- election. It should have been stated by Gen. Butler that Mr. Beck's speech was in support of the bill repealing the moiety laws reported from the Committee of Ways and Means, which is composed cf s majority of republicans, and that Mesers. Dawes, Koberts, Foster, and others of the committee made speeches of @ similar tenor. The value of fh products last year was $11 from Nova Scot Ontario, and Prince Edward Island. More than half this large sum was contributed by Nova Scotia, the valucof its fish products being O86, an increase of $560,251 since 1572. The Nova Scotians employed 490 vessels and 9,009 small boats and 18,906 fishermen. The value of the crafts is given at $1,047,413, and the value of the nets and weirs st 23.
