The Baby Farming Case. ACQUITTAL OF DR. HENRY WILSON. This morning, in the Criminal Court, Judge Humphreys, the case of — Wilson, charged with arsault and bat! with intent to kill a white female infant child, (which subsequently died,) was called up, Judge Fisher proseeating an: Judge Peters, of Maryland, and 1. Martha Brown was first called, and testilied that in April Jast defendant brought to her house, in Shepherd's alley, white girl baby abontthree days old, a ted that her hus. band bad told him to bring the baby toher. The child was in the buggy, and when the baby was —— she saw that it wasa filthy child; was ‘osming atthe mouth. It was bruised on the side from the shoulder to the hip and about the head. The defendant eaid he would pay her. ‘There was a dent onthe head. The child lived for over two weeks and had spasms, contina- ing until its death. The child was left with her on Thursday, and on Friday two ladies came asked to seé the baby, and promized to pay her her for her trouble. Alin Hrown testified that he met Wilson about the Jast of April on the Avenue, and the latter asked if he was a married man, and stated that he wanted some one to take care of a child. Witness toid him that if he could make a bargain with his wife he had no objection Lieut. Eckiof testitied that he saw the c! tew Cage after it had been left with Mrs. B: and to seeing bruises upon it. He also testified to swearing out the warrant and to the arrest of the defendant. He also testitied that the de- ged having left the child; was the child of a poor cripple: woman. For the defence, Dr. J. H. Hushnei! testitied that Le was called to attend a white child in Sahat alley; that it was then weak and | elicate. tha Wroe testified that she has resided at Viison’s; recollects a child having been born there in April. The mother had been there six weeks. The child was delicate when it was bern. and a few days after it had the yellow jaundice. The mother said she was unable to support the ehild; that she was an orphan, and that she suffered sometimes with the hip disease. ‘The mother wrapped the child up, and it w: given to a boy, who took it away. “he mother eaid ber pame was Jennie Carr; she wasa red haired, blue woman, and camo, she said, from St. Mary's county, Md. The child when taken away was three weeks old. George Wilson and other witnesses testitied. Judge Fisher at this point said they would not trouble the court further, for they were fatiefied that they could not convict—probably bot of simple assanit. The Washington Schuetzenfest, Yesterday, the third day of the Schueizen festival, was as full of enjoyment as the pre- ceding days, and notwithstanding the immense crewd present, not an accident of any kind, or an unpleasant occurrence, marred the festivi- ties. The weather was much more endurabie than on the previousdays. The amusements of the daytime were of the usual character, and consisted of shooting, bowling, gymnastic ex- ercises of various kt for the men, and climb- ing greased poles, catching at sa: strung on ropes, walking on a turt-go-round for prize for the ‘This was & great source of amuze- it was very laughable to witness the perseverance and eagerness of the juveniles in contesting for the awards. Mr. Von Brunsen, acting German Minis- ter, and Mr. Von Eisendecker, Secretary of the German Legation, visited the fest in the after- noon, and were shown around by President Simon Wolf. The enjoyment was kept uj ingly hour after hour, until the booming of the 2 o’clock gun gave the signal for retiring.
