The decision was reserved. pecans cent Tae Pretic Scnoor ExaMimaTions.—The examination of the male grammar sceool of the third district, Mr. C. E. Hilton, teacher, took place this afternoon, at the Wallach Building. There were present Messrs. Wilson, (superin- tendent,) French, Hover, and McLellan, Prot. Daniels, and a tew of the parents and friends of the pupils. There are 50 boys on the rotl, all of whom were present. The pupi!s were ex- amined by the eupermtendent and trustees in iksophy, mental arithmetic, grammar, his- tory, written arithmetic, algebra and masic. Tho examination in grammar, arithmetic aud a’gebra were especially fine, and it seemad that exch of the pupils had mate these studies spa ties. In the other studies the examination vasa very tairone. The examination in music showed that they have made considerable pro- gress recently. The pupils presented rather a bright appearance, and they were very wall be- haved. ‘The awards of premiams will uot be made until aiter the written examination. THe Boarp or HeALra met last night. The committee on ordinances submitted a report recommending that a contract be entered into with Peter Murry & Co., for making sewer connections, that firm being the lowest bidders. The report was adopted, and the committee w: authorized to prepare a proper form of co: tract. Dor. Verdi made a report from the sani- tary committee, recommending certain amen !- ments to the proposed charter for a general slaughter-honse asked by certain partles from Congress. Chase made application for a position under the boar: Ss Tae GReat Ooncert Last NiGut.—Space will not admit of an extended criticism of this grard entertainment, but we express universal Opinion when we say it was the greatest suc- cess of the season, and Prof. Newcomb may bs well satisfied with this first effort in aid of the bew College of Masic. Mr. Walter's perform- ance elicited positive enthusiasm, and the duo for tho piano was greeted with rapturons ap- plause. Mr, mel was happy in his part, and the orchestra and chorus gratifying. Oar Ger- man friends, Mrs, Morell and Messrs. bra Bishof, Rockar, and Weise, sang delightfully in two ensemble pieces, All was inorder and well done.
