The anxious crowd at the steamboat wharves | in this city was not near so large yesterday as on | the two previous days, except bout the hours when boats were expected from the scene of the | disaster to the Wawaset. It was rumored during | the day that the bodies of Mrs. J. W. Reed and her remaining chitd had been recovere’ ani | were on their way up, and, as the tug was ex- pected in the evening, the waiting crowd at the wharf rapidly increaseé as the sun neared the horizon. About 6:49 o'clock p. m. the tug Johnson Brothers, wi-h her colors at half-mast, male fast tothe whetf,and the boty of little Marian (Manie) Reed, the second daughter, enclosed in an ice-box, was brougtt off the boat and carried to the” residence of the aillicted father, who came up from the scene of the dis- aster with the remains. When her body was brought in Mr Kobert Reed aud Mr. George Walker (the lat ter the brother of the deceased) at once recog nized it, and took possession of it. "They found her watch, chain and pocket-book safe, but the chain had parted a few links from the watch. Itis likely from what nad heretofore occurred that had none of her friends been present nothing of any value would have been recovered Pt | with the body. Mr. Reed and his brother Rob- ert immediatoly started to Mr. Walker's resi- jence, and there found the remains of the wife, but they were (with the exception of her dress and some peculiarities about the teeth) past recognition. The funeral took place yesterday morning, Rey. Mr. Boggs officiating, and the body was interred at Hollywood cemetery, about six niles distant from the steamboat landing. Her story and her appearance could not fail of exciting sympathy rom every one, but it was discovered that hér stories to different persons did not agree, and soon Lieut. Kelly came in and recognized her as a professional “dead beat.” She had imposed upon him two years | ago by telling him about her husband bein, | crushed todeath on a railroad, and he raised $% by subscription and gave it to her. It took over five minutes to completely narcotize che patient, and jist as he became unconscious he was seized with a violent trembling fit, which greatly alarmed the physician. He laid his unused instruments aside and resorted to what restoratives he had at hand, but it was useless, the man gasping his last breath within a minute after the tromb- ling commenced. It appears that Barlow, who re- sided near Wyoming. Nebraska, left home Sunday with the avowed pmrpose of killin Woodson. onagioon at Percival, Barlow stat his intentions, and his friends ‘endeavored to persuade him to return home, but he would not, and after remaining in town all that day and night, started next morning for Woodson’s farm. In the meantime Woodson heard of Bar- low’s intention, and arming himself took a po- sition in the corn field, aud when Barlow Ap- proached he shot and killed him, and then fled to Nebraska, but returned Thursday and sur- rendered to the officers of the law, and wa: placed in Jail at Sydney.
