This seems to be a very unsatis- faetory explanation when it is remember that Udderzook distinctly alluded to the mone: being made in one day and by one operation. The prisoner is probably still ignorant of the pertection of the chain of evidence which is wound abouthim. That chain was made still stronger yesterday by the identification of the remafns as those of Winfield Scott Goss by the witnesses who knew him well in Baltimore, and were shown the mangled body, which had been onee more exhumed for that purpose. The ring found in the earri: was most positively recog- nized by Engel, with whom Goss Iived for soma time previous to his alle; death, and there now seems to be nothing lacking to inculpate Udderzook as the murderer, or to prove that his vietim was Goas. As we are advised by our latest dispatches, there are still other strange disclosures to be made. The trial of Udderzook will be commenced at West Chester on the 27th of October. The number of dead and wounded left upon the field was so large that all the vehicles of every kind in the town were pressed into service for their re- moval. TAKING POSITION. ‘The first to get into position were the Colum- bia and Amherst crews. Next came the Bow- doin, Massachusetts Agricultural, Cornell, Dartmouth, Trinity, Yale, Williams, Harvard, and Wesleyan, in the order named. When they had taken’ their appointed stations as fol- Jows, numbering from the west bank: Amlerst 1, Massachusetts Agricultural 2, Yale 3, Har. yard 4, Columbia 5, Wesleyan 6, Williams 7, Dartmouth 8, Trinity 9, Bowdoin 10, Cornell 11; the signal for the boats to get away was given at 6:06, The water at this time was just as smooth as glass, with scarcely a puff of wind blowing, ——- @ slight drizzling rain was falling, making it particularly disagreeable for the spectators along the banks and in the na- merous small boats which thronged the river. Mills, late President of the Brookiyn Trust company, who was drowned at Coney Island last Tuesday morning are overdrawn $100,000, and that he allowed the loaning of over 839,00) of the funds of that institution upon securities. THE TOTAL IMPORTS FOR THE WEEK amounted to $6,530,655, of which $4,27: were general merchandise, and $2,256, goods, SPECIE SHIPMENTS TO RUROPR to-day, #1,550,000, of which $1,200,000 is gold coin, and $350,000 silver bars. TRE SUSPENSION OF THE BROOKLYN TRUST COMPASY Was @ great surprise to Wall street, and cau & temporary depression on the stock exchang Many brokers were in the habit of borrowing money from the concern, and not one of them even suspected that anything was wrong. The Capital assets were £500,000; surplus, $100,000, and deposits £2,200,000. Mr. Mills, the late ec. isa detaulter to the extent of $146,000. le bas $150,000 Williamantic and Air Line Cap- ital railroad bonds, which have some value, but hot enough to cover the amount of cash taken. Mr. Chauncey, of the directors, has been ‘ing for along time past to get an examination of the company, but the directors generally ob- ted, as if would be a reflection upon Mr. ills. At last he obtained the consent of five directors, the requisite aumber for an examina- tion, and’as soon as Mr. Mulls found this out he Trinity and Williams crews were also in trouble and were putting up the signal of distress. Ou arriving at the mile and ahalf post it became clearly evident that the race was reduced to a contest between Yale, Harvard, Wesleyan, Dartmouth and Amberst. At this point Har- vard was leading all the other boats by about two lengths, Yale and the Wesleyans and Am- herst being well up, however. Colambia was leading the second group of boats, which were coming along all in a bunch, but gradually talling out and reducing their chances of snc- cess. ‘Trinity and W were whipping mmitted suicide. sive of frescoing; the building to be completed | fhe rear.
