Yesterday, after our report of the trial of ‘Thomas Wright ou an indictment charging him with the murder of Samuel Rogerski, the ped- dler, closed— Lewis W. Robinson, sworn:— Witness is aclerk in Bogan & Wylie’s store, on 7th street; a Jew ler was in the store on the Monday morn- ing before Christmas; has sold deceased shaw!s, bed-ticking, Jackets, and other articles of dry goods. ¢ package found in Wright's yani was here exhibited. and witness identified one o— and three balmoral skirts contained erein. Crowe-amined:— Identified the articles by the trace marks of the firm on them; put the marks on them himself, and could not identify them otherwise. ieut: James W. Gessford sworn:—Witness has charge of Precinct No. 1; arrived at the station about 1 o’clock on the night of the murder, but nothing was done that night; the next’ doy Detes e MeDevitt called on him, aud on ue night of the 25th of December they proceeded to the house in the alley and arrested Wright, Margaret Woods, ai two other Tsons; searched Wright and found that he on two pairs Of stockings; one pair were new and cor- responded witha pair found in the package; took the new ones from him; proceeded to examme the premises, and found in the yard a package and in the house several of blood; looked under the bed and found a hatchet, (hatchet exhibited,) on which he found some hair (hair exhibited) and several spots of what seemed tobe blood; the hatchet had the ap- pearance of having been shoved into the fire; — a large amount of blood on the floor of the closet. Cross-examined:—Detective McDevitt, Off- cers Hughes. Leach, Lewis, and Sergeant Pierce were in company with witness when the arrest was made; the prisoner offered no resist- ance when he was arrested; there was snow op the ground on the night of the Zid of Decem- ber; the snow was not deep, but frozen; discov- ered blood-stains in the closet under the stairs and in several other places; the back fence looked like it was new, and could not easily be broken into. Wit: had to move a pile of lumber before he got to the earth under which he found the pack. A spade was also found alongside the lumber. Mr. Harrington said he desired to cal! the at- tention of Gen. Henkie to the fact that he would contend that the socks taken eff Wright's feet and that each of the odds & It would be seen (holding up the stockings) that one of Wright's socks was long and the other short, and that one of the odd socks found in the pack was long and the other short. WRIGHT'S MiATRESS ON THE WITNESS STAND. Meroaret Wood was next called, and Wright looked at her very seriously. She seat, having been sick. had be iving with Wright since July last. Witness went toa Jady’s house near 1ith and F streets late in the afternoon; Tom went out about? or 2 o'clock, and when witness returned they had all re- turned and she got supper. Tomdid not go out that night until about 9 o’clock; he said that he was gotng to play cards on 44 street. Witness recollects a woman p-ddler who was at the house the week before; she had been dealing with her six or seven years; Wright had dealt _ her, and had bought two pair of socks from her. AN ORTECTION. They were all arrested on Christmas night and taken to ‘ion. Cross-examined:— Wright toid where the shoes were; did not know that Tom had been shot of hisown knowledge. On Tuesday wit- hess made a casual examination of the honse; could not see blood in the closet withont a light. Wright showed them around and smacked his teeth together (laughter in court and Weight grinned.) The blood in the closet was like a smear; there was some on the fire board. The bleod on tne hearth was clotted. A brick was produced which had been taken from the hearth, and witness said he thought there was blood on it. Mr. Harrington said he had bad it taken up, and pointed out a spot on the top and on the side where it had soaked down apparently, The cross-examiflation was continned, wit- ness stating that Major Richards and Mr. H.O. Noyes were with him when they tracid the lood from the place where the body was found. There was snow about in spots; some not melted. Stephen H Alden, an application for divorce and alimony, was called up in the superior court (Judge Granger) at Bridgeport, Conn., Monday after- noon.
