Smoot is the president, and the Washington city and Point Lookout railroad com (Mr. S. T. Sait peesident), have re- cently entered into an ment by which the construction of one road from this city to Point Lookout is supposed to be assured. The agreement is that Col. Suit will abandon all op- erations below Brandywine (the point at which the Pope's Creek line of the Ba)"imore and Po- tomac railroad is crossed), and will not con- struct a road or aid in the construction of a road delow that paint. ‘The Southerm Maryland en- gages that Mr. Suit shall constract that portion of the road fvom Brandywine to this city, and on its completion the two companies shall enter into an arrangement by which the Southern Maryland shall beeome the purchaser or lesmce ef the line this side of Brandywine. It is also stipulated that the Washington city and Point Loookout railroad company will drop their Present corporate name and adopt a new one. ‘The Seuthern Maryland has already finished grading from Brandywine down thirty and as soon as the weather permits, the laying of ties and rails will be commenced. The pros- pect is now held out that the people of Charles’ and the whole of St. Mary's county will be able to make the journey to this city by rail by taking the Baltimore ami Potomac trains Brandywine, and from thenee by Bowie ( ingtom) to this city.
