THE BOARD OF TKUSTEES CENSURED BY A MEETING OF COLORED CITIZENS. At a mass meeting of colored citizens at Israel Chureh, Capitol Hill, last night, the ebairman, Kev. Charles Keys, stated the object of the meeting to be to protest against the iate action ef the colored school trustees towards the colored preachers who called on the board tostatethe objection of the ministers and their congregations to the singing in the colored pub- lc sebools of secular songs by the pupils, dis- tasteful to seme of them; and also to protest against the action of the board in dischargin pupils frem the echools for refusing to sing such objectionable songs. Even cbildren could not be made to think when they were singing to the tune of ‘When the Swaliows Homeward Fly” and ‘Kise Me Mother, Kiss Me Quickly,” that they were singing genuinely «Praise God from Whom all Bi g8Fiow.” The actions of THIS MIGHTY BOARD OF TRUSTEES were arrogant in the extreme. They thought they knew everything. Mr.@. F. ‘I. Mr Harri , counsel for defense, asked that the case be dismissed on the ground that it hud not been proved that Mr.O’Hagan was at the time driving. The court overruled the point and fined defendant $20, from which an appeal was taken, and bonds in the shape of collateral offered; but Attorney Miller objected to a money security, contending that the law re- quired surety in a responsible bondsman. Mr. O'Hagan was. thereiore. compelled to go in search of bonds, when his collateral! of $100 was returned to him. After the disposition of the case Mr. Herrington called attention to the fact that Mr. Miller had laid his information in this case in the January term instead of the Decem- ber term, the January term not commencing until next Monday. This new article of com merece is sold for lard, and is composed of about equal quantities of genume lard and fine white meal. The process of manufacture is to meit the lard and then add the meal, stirring tuem well ether. The compound can be easily detected by its rough and grainy appearance. The meal is fully deveioped when the article is melted. A Rurrran’s TERRIBLE Fate.—A dreadful instance of summary justice occurred at Visalia, Cal., on Christmas eve. A noted raffian James McCrory, who had all killed some four or five persone in that vicinity, shot an intimate friend named Charles Allen in cold blood and without the Bad provocation, Bring deliberately five ¢h til he killed him. Alter a desperate fight with the police, McCrory was seized and conveyed to jail, but the citizens were 80 that ‘mined to lyach him. The infant is snapped up ina mo- ment, and the chances are a dozen to one against its ever being restered to its proper owner.
