All the newspapers puglished in this city were entirely of a secular character, and he thought such an organ as he had indicated should be established. I theretore sug- t that the numbering should begin at the astern branch, and be now continued across Kock creek to the western heights of George- town, and the lettered streets begin at the south- ern part of the city, and be continuous on through the city and Mount Pleasant. The rea- sons that present themselves to me are that this arrangement permits an unlimited extension of this system of numbering streets commensurate with the fature growth and prospects of our city. { will also state here that the board of pubiic works would do well to project the avenues and mark off all the streets within the boundaries of the ten miles square, so that the o; if roads in future shall, as far as practic form to the original places ot the tended.
