Probably generally support the bolters’ ticket, headed by Reuben Tomlinson for governor. The regular ticket is headed by Franklin J. Mores, jr., for governor. it contains the names of fuur colored candidates Out Of six officers to be voted for—governor, lieutenant governor, treasurer, secretary of State, sttorney general, and superintendent of edueation—while the bolters ticket contains the namesot three white and three colored candi- Mates. The republican majority for President in 1868 was 17,879; for governor in 1870, 33,534. ‘The republican candidates for congress are E. H. Cain, colored, at large; Joseph H. Rainey, colored, Ist district; Alonzo J. Ransier, colored, 2d; Robert B_ Elliot, colored, 3d; Alexander S. Wallace, 4th. The democratic candidates hitherto announced are Lewis E. Johnson at large. and Benjamin F. Perry, 4th district. The four republican representatives in the Present congress were elected by the following majorities. Ist district, 3,503; 24, 936; 34, 6,56 ath, 3.204. The legislature will elect a United States Senator in place of Hon. Frederick A- Sawyer. Thirteen members of the senate hold Over, leaving seventeen to be elected at this time. The legislature last chosen was composed of sepudlicans aud 25 democrats. In this connee- tion, it may be remarked that the cost of the pipes at present in use is considerably less than that of lead; so that it will be seen that the use Of the composite metal pipe is dictated by eco- Bomical as well as sanitary motives.
