Paymaster | ‘There is more trouble among the Grecleyites of Missouri. A ‘‘confidential circular” issued by the chairman of the so-called liberal repa- lican state committee, complains that the democrats of that state, wherever they believed themselves strong enough te succeed without assistance, have refused to co-operate with the Greeleyites in the nomination of candidates for be) general assembly, Congress, and county offices. Mr. Greeley talked reconciliation yesterday at Tionesta, Pa. At Williamsport he made other speech, cooily calling attention to the administration cabinet ministers and office- helders running and racing from one end of the country to the other, to persuade the people to keep them in office! At Corry he said that if any majority should be got against the liberal ticket in Ohio and Indi it would re to be bought and dearly paid for. No clue to er identity has yet been obtained. It is thoug?? that the fire mast have been caused by some matches, which fetlon the fodder in the cart and set fire to it. From the inflamma- ble neture of the material the fire gained such headway that she was wnable to extinguish it, and the horse becoming frightened ran away, preventing the peor weman from making her escape. Another theory is that the woman was Totwed and beaten until supposed dead, and the cart then set on fire to conceal all evidence of ‘the crime. MISMANAGEMENT OF THE KICHMOND GAS Works.—The {nvestigation into the misman- agement of the office Inspector of Gas, in Kich- mond, it is said discloses a degree ot looseness, negligence, indifference and fraudse!dom found in the most corrupt departments of the worst managed cities. Each Inspector did as he pleased; turned on and off the gas at will; con- tracted private bills, and let some people ran their gas bills trom three to fifteen or seventeen months. To what extent the city has suffered it is impossible to know; the state of things in ex- istence having continued daring three or four years. Four separate and distinct forgeries it is said, have been discovered. Richmond is go erned by native democrats and not radical car- pet baggers. 01 Tae Noarork (Va.)
