This seemed to set him up again, and he entered the nomination on the minutes.’ The coniusion was so great that nothing could be done. Mr. H. P. Dick’s voice seemed a little the loudest, and he was heard to say that the condition of things in the 10th district made him “weep tears like rain put 2 time, € declared goi | falling down trom the clouds.” cox WAS DROWNED OUT by the flood of tears and talk, and took his goat, calling out, “Make it brief, Richard.” Dick, Waxing warm, pulled off his coat and handed it to Pat Curtain to hold while he went on with bis remarks. Pixton got the stand, and claimed that he had not been fairly used, as be had rented the hall and paid for it. Chappell rallied ayain, and de- sired to be heard just fora minute; he said his name had been brought forward without his consent, and he begged to decline the honor, and attempting to bow very gracefully, he backed up against a heavy screen which had been placed on the stage tor theatrical purposes, and down tumbled the screen, with Chappell on top, to the great delight of the boys and disgust uf THE RETIRING CANDIDATE. Such a shout as went up, provably was never defore heard in Carroll Hall, and the chairman taking advantage of the interval of good humor, put the motion on Pixton’s nomination as can: date for the House of Delegates, and declared it carried unanimously.
