They were all in that part of London in which the larger portion of the population is composed of poor people. It | seems as though it were not enough to sell the poor adulterated articles, and to charge a large price for them, but they must be further out- raged by being swindled out of their just weight of the wretched materials they bay. In this country little care is given to the protection of the public in the matter of false weights, with the exception of anoccasional inspection—uaual. ly merely nominal—of the weights and scales in the public markets.
