Ta® CaXat COMPANY AND TSE The statements in several Bal day, attributing the suspension of t | Geergetow nthe Potomac, are calculated to give an erroneous impression. There is at present water enongh in the river toren a hundred mills, tf it were ouly properly utilized. As stated in’tag Stan yesterday, the cause of low water in the canal and consequent suspension of the millsis mainly due to the defective dam across the Potomac, a few miles above this city. There isan abun. dance of water in the river, but the dam is 80 full of leaks that much of the water passes through Instead of over it. What is required, and what the canal company must build sooner or ister, is Anew dam, which will wholly obviate all complaints of tae millers in fature. The company fs abundantly able to build such a dam, and jastice to the millers demands that they should do it without delay.
