Importance of the Recent Riots in Germany. ‘The Pail Mall Gazetle, of August 7, says that “it would seem, after all, that the French press dees not very much exaggerate in the matter of the Berlin riots on the 25th and 26th of last month. As is known, the immediate occasion of the disturbance was the evictiou of a family which had paid no rent for sometime. The Berlin correspondent of the Cologne Gazette however, stated that the evicted family on good terms with the landlord; that they hired @ cart to remove their furniture, but that on the way a dispute arose as to the sum to be = to the carter, and that he unloaded the ‘urniture and left it in the street. In any view this would give no good cause for riot, the correspondent maintains, inasmuch as the men were assisting the family with their furniture when the ecuffe began. The true cause, he says, ‘is to be sought in the love of scandal and the predominant disposition of our pecple to take part against St It must be added that the neighborhood is thickly peopled by a disorderly mob, which is aceustomed to live on the worst of terme with the guardians of the pablic morals.’ Whatever may have been the cause, this much, at least, is certain, that the disturbances lasted from the forenoon of Thursday, the 25th, til! one o'clock next morning; that the mob broke in doors and Windows, and had to be aoe again and again | by the mounted police, and that agreat number of arrests were made before anything like order was restored. On Friday afternoon the mob re- appeared in greater numbers than the preceding day, end the rioting recommenced.
