The statement that the Crispins decided to withdraw from the Lynn savings banks all the money standing to their credit, is pronounced by the secretary of that order untru Rose Coror View or Msxtcan Pouttics.— Late dispatcbes from Mexico say: It is the general belief that Lerdo de Tejada will be elected to the Presidency with but slight oppo- sition. The country is becoming pacitied. The roads are safe, an: confidence is being restored. Martial law has been revoked in the states of Puebla, Zacatecas and Hidalgo, and the state governments have been restored to their full powers. Lerdo’s course gives general satistac- tion. Leon Guzman is mentioned as Minister to Washington. Efforts are making to organ- ize the Juarez supporters the last Presi- dentia! election into @ political party called, ‘Radical Reformers.” Ex-Governor Baez is mentioned as their candidate. The chances are not fayorable for the organization of a powerful party. Snot Wire in Bep.—John Hertfelter was shot while in bed at his house, No. 1820 South street early yesterday morning. Just before the shot Mrs. Hertfeiter got up to attend to a sick infant, and thus probably escaped. The bal! took effect in Hertfeiter’s lett thigh, and has not been extracted. The tacts will be developed at the hearing. Phila. North American, 13th. TRE GENEVA ARBITRATION has not yet sei- tled in the main the question whether the Brit- ish government used due dilligence to prevent the escape of the rebel cruisers. The court is engaged in examining successively the cases of theee vessels, to ascertain how tar the general charge of negligence on the part of Great Britain may hold d with — to each. It is to assist in this investigation that Mr. Cohen has been summoned to Geneva, as his pee of the ciccumstances of each case is cee to invest him with the authority of an expert. Tas Tiwes Liner Prosgcurion.—On the complaint of Judson H. Kilpatrick against Louis J. Jennings, editor ot the New York ‘Times, for libel, it is stated that the grand jury at tirst ordered a bill to be prepared, but subse- quently some of the number, being inclined to regard the matter as a political squabble, pro- d a reconsideration, and this proposition as ever since been the theme of a sometimes heated discussion. Twelve votes, as the district attorney advises the jury, are required for @ re- consideration; and it is said that this number cannot yet be obtained. ANOTHER EVIDENCE of the progress which the principle of minority representation is making, is to be found in the new schoo! law ot Connecticut. it provides that the number of School visitors in each town shall be either six or nine; if six, two are to be chosen each year: but the ballot of either party contains but onc name, and the two candidates receivi: the highest number of votes are elected. aif the board consists of nine, three are to be chosen each year, aud the ballots may contain two names, —E———————EEs Lo on THE RamPacz in Urag.—Indians attacked a party of herders in San Pete county, ‘Utah, recently, killing two men and woundin; many others with arrows.
